The coach is my first car - I bought it in 1970 (with 39,000 miles, original paint & upholstery).
We (wife Elisabeth and I) drove it to Jackson Hole, Wyoming from Denver (a 1500 mile round trip) for the VMCCA Western National Tour in 1978.
A friend and his wife also drove their 1929 Essex rumble-seat coupe - we had TEAM ESSEX t-shirts printed.
The speedster is an assemblage of Essex parts acquired via many years of swap meets and HMN ads.
I have lots of (available) chassis parts, lenses, vacuum tanks, & misc. 1929 Essex parts and pieces.

I purchased this car in Buffalo, NY in 1971 for $1,000. It is still completely original with original paint job, enterior, etc. Merrit Marks ( HET Club Founder) came to my house in about 1983 and said it was the best completely original he'd seen. I just started to restore the car within the last year. I moved it to Florida in 1982. I've put new tires on it, had the generator rebuilt, got a friend from Canada who sold me a new steering hub, and still trying out what to do next. It seems like an overwhelming job. I can sure use some advise. I want this car stay as original as I possibly can. |

Congratulations on the 1929 Essex website. You've done very well. May I recommend that you spell out on this page where to find the 1929 serial number on the car/chassis. I'm sure you or someone else has previously written it up, but I can find neither the write-up nor the serial number. Please advise.
And on another subject, thanks for the photo of the 1929 wire wheel the other day. If possible, when you get the opportunity, please send me a photo of the wire wheel hub with wheel removed.

This is my first car - bought it when I was 12 in 1954. It was black, but I found the original maroon with cream stripe underneath the door handles. It was instrumental in starting the Hudson Club because my father wanted to start the H.E.T. and the man who bought my Essex encouraged him to do so. It was sold again and restored green and two boys from Tampa used it at U.F. for their car while in college. It went through a couple more hands and was restored again tan and black, and sold again. The last owner said it wouldn't be sold until he died. He drove it from Florida to Kansas City and another trip to(and up and down)Lookout Mtn. Tennessee. After 37 years of ownership by him, I was able to buy it from his estate. I plan to make My 29 its original maroon with cream stripes. It runs and is solid for restoration. The state of Florida did not use the body number; it used the frame number for ID which is 1211147. Roy |

Hi Dave, ambitious project you 've taken on. Thanks! and good luck. Essex was purcased in 1967 from Mr. Ness in Chicago. Actual mileage since new is 1629 4/10ths. Was purchased NEW in April of 1930, as a "leftover" It is a 29 in every respect except the purchase date. Might need to adjust your serial number data.
